How did you decide on your Big Idea?
I thought for a long time on what I wanted to do for my big idea project. I also changed my mind three times. What I thought when i got my idea that i followed though with using, i was thinking that since it was a big idea i should learn something big from it. I have always loved comedy sketches and videos and i wanted to learn how to do them. So the big idea that i wanted to get out of this project was how to expand my capabilities and/or range of film making.
How did you decide on a way to show that Big Idea through video?
I first watched a bunch of sketches to try to get inspiration from. There were a lot that i liked that were pretty good but there was one that i absolutely loved. It was a sketch from a british network and if didn’t even get most of the references they made i just loved the idea. So i took the ide and made my own script to make it relevant to americans.
What video concepts did you decide not to do? Why?
I didn’t follow through with the plain boring action movie idea that almost everybody in this class tries to make at some point. I didn't feel like it was original idea and that i would get as much out of the action movie as i would the sketch. I wanted to learn as much as i could with this project and didn't want to waste the opportunity to have a choice on what to create.
Do you feel you effectively talked about your Big Idea with your video? Why or why not?
i don't believe that i talked about my big idea in my video it was more of an experience for me. I'm not sure if thats what we were supposed to do or not. Maybe i just didn't read the directions close enough. I thought i could make a video where i could get as much new experiences as i could while still making a good video.
What was the best part of this process (brainstorming, writing, planning, shooting, editing, etc?) Why was it the best for you?
I love every single part of making movies. Brainstorming is fun because i love to see what i can come up with and being able to feel like nothing is impossible and anything i think of can be made. Writing is fun and it starts to bring me back down and ask myself if the video can realistically be made or if the idea will be one that is good or not. It also give me the freedom to put in twists and points that i didn't originally come up with while brainstorming. Planning lets me know exactly what is going to happen, so i can visualize it and compare that to what i had originally brainstormed. Shooting is always a lot of fun because you get to act and pretend and be someone who you're not. Then editing is amazing because you can watch every piece come together(... or all apart) and create the film you saw in your head.
What was the best part of choosing your own Big Idea as opposed to me setting one for you? The worst part?
The best and worst part was the freedom. I love being able to kinda just film whatever i wanted and been like heres my project but i didn't want to do that. Like i said before i wanted to get the best out of this as i could so having so many possibilities was also difficult. I wanted to try something new that i had never done before even when part of me just wanted to play it safe and do something simple. But i took the risk and the result i was very upset with. It was not the video that i had imagined and it wasn't funny like i was trying to have it be. But even still i feel like i learned a little bit more than i already knew about sketches and it was a successful project.
Propose one additional Big Idea video idea that you could accomplish by March 14. I want very specific details: what, who, why, how, when, where.
A video that i would love to make is one that basically shows me and my friends having fun. One of those compilation videos that makes you smile and feel happy. I want to make a video that makes people go “wow that kid has fun with his life.” It would be with maybe my closest few friends and i would want to have a bunch of different places. I would also want a bunch of smiling and laughing. I want to do this because i love seeing videos like this and it brightens my day so if i could get even close to making someone's day better while having fun, then that feels like a win win for me and them.
