intervention

- In your own words, what is intervention?
I think that an intervention is anything that is different in someone's life.  Anything that intervenes with their everyday routine.

- What was the purpose of this exercise?
To show everyone in the class how much fun and how great it is to make someone else day more fun, interesting, or just different.

- Why did you choose to intervene the way you did? I’m looking for more than “I thought it would be funny” or “no one would expect it.”  What social/personal/human issue did you intend to comment on? Why? How?
I had a lot more that I wanted to do that I didn't get too but that was just because of the winter.  I ended up with my idea by starting out with the craziest thing I could think of.  Then when i chickened out and couldn't go swimming in the fountain i worked my way down to just doing odd things in the store because i figured that it was reasonable and still a good idea.  Why? because people often don't enjoy going to the store.  Seeing something weird always makes me smile.  How? random things that certain people look like they would enjoy.

- Why did you choose the location? I’m looking for more thought than “lots of people would be there, so I went there.” How did the location play up your specific idea?
We figured that in walmart we would be able to get away with a lot more than we would anywhere else.  The location gave us so much options to do for the video that we were kind of overwhelmed.

- Name three specific examples, ideas, artworks or statements you observed in class that helped you plan for this project.
I always watch video on youtube of people pranking other people and i think that its so funny so i got a big inspiration from that.  The video of improve everywhere was pretty cool too.

I hate routines and i cant stand when i have to do the same thing over and over again.  People that have to go to the store usually arent happy to be there.  Me and my friends thought that we should go to walmart and do something weird to try to make them go home and tell someone in their family something they saw at walmart.  We would see someone in an ail and based on what was around them we would do something crazy.  Brian saw a girl next to  big teddy bear so he picked it up sucked his thumb and walked around her. When we did things like that for a while we decided to make sure everyone saw something.  So what we did was rode bikes through the store around everyone. It was fun and i hope what we went there to do ended up happening.  This was a really fun project and i enjoyed it a ton.

  1. Nick, there is a fine line between laughing AT someone and WITH someone (as I'm sure you learned when you were a wee boy). Your video does a little of each, but I'd say it leans to the WITH side. I'm happy to have read your thought process so I could understand your intervention a little better.
